Catastrophic Frankenstein
A catastrophe in literary terms is the final action that ties events of the story together, therefore the catastrophe of Frankenstein has to be the moment The Being holds Victor's dead body in his arms and tells Walton that he will "ascend [his] funeral pile triumphantly and exult in the agony of the torturing flames," then jumping out the window of Walton's ship (345). This is the final act that ends the conflict of the novel, however the audience cannot be sure that The Being followed through with committing suicide by throwing himself onto Victor's burning body.
