Drama Bomb: Dramatic Irony
Dramatic irony is a literary device that occurs when the audience knows more than the majority of characters which is used to create suspense in a story. This type of irony can be found in Frankenstein during the prosecution of Justine, Victor (and therefore the audience) knows is innocent because he saw The Being's silhouette looming in the shadows when he visited the location of Williams murder. However, Victor cannot tell anyone of The Being because his reputation as a prestigious scientist will be tarnished to a simple mad man or even more drastic circumstances could entangle him with the murder and he'd be prosecuted then executed as Justine was. This position The Being puts Victor in is incredibly intelligent because it causes his creator pain two fold with the death of his brother and Justine, and it causes Victor immense feelings of guilt and responsibility for all the lives that will be lost by his monster.
