EPIC Characteristics
|
Frankenstein although a anti-Goth novel, it contains many elements of an Epic poem. For instance, the traveling Victor ensues on his own, in addition to the traveling he and Henry traversed gives the audience a wide variety of locations like that of an Epic. Another element of an Epic is that it opens in the middle of the action of the story, the beginning of Frankenstein open on Walton's ship without any preface explaining how it contributes to the main plot line. Victor's unorthodox family history pertaining to Elizabeth and most likely stemming from the life of the author herself, is another element of an Epic poem called Epic genealogy according to "The Epic Tradition".
