How Frankenstein Shaped the World
Mary Shelley's Frankenstein has been .As a major influence on American culture from Alice Cooper to a Disney Channel reference, people are immediately drawn to the horror of Frankenstein. Its themes and motifs depicted have trickled out into society causing spin offs, spoofs, and all around misconception of the truth of the story.
Many reviews have been made about Frankenstein, this article by The British Critic praises Frankenstein for Mary Shelley's promise as a female writer in her time, which is a comment that I agree with completely. Shelley's poetic writing style and complex plot development are all aspects of a writer that I can respect and enjoy happily. Another article by Walter Scott at Blackwood's Edinburgh Magazine supports Shelley's views on humanity presented through the novel, the reviewer compares Frankenstein to other works such as Gulliver's Travels. I, like Scott, back Shelley's expression of her views on the relationship between humanity and nature, there is knowledge that humanity strives to achieve but if accomplished will reek havoc on all mankind. Lastly this article published by Edinburgh Magazine the reviewer enjoyed reading Frankenstein, as did I, but they did find some flaws within it, which I agree with because no single writer produces a perfect piece of work. I believe that Shelley needed to evolve even more as a writer to continue writing great works continuously.

Mary Shelley turned her back on everything her peers and elders expected her to do, she wrote about themes that people of her time couldn't understand a woman would want to write about. Mary Shelley couldn't have possibly fathomed the depth at which her novel has affected American culture or how different the story we associate with the author has evolved throughout the years. Now Frankenstein has become relevant on various platforms including games (like the one below) to theatrical performances.
